"It Is Finished"
Pastor John Mark Oliver
I. The Cross represents our forgiveness, our freedom and our redemption
o He bore our griefs
o He carried our sorrows
o He was wounded for our transgressions
o He was bruised for our iniquities
o He was chastised for our peace
o He was scourged for our healing
II. What was finished? (tetelestia)
A. Four meanings
1. He had finished the work the Father had sent Him to do.
2. He was the Sacrificial Lamb without spot or blemish presented by the High Priest.
3. He was the last and final payment of our debt.
4. He was the turning point
III. The ratification of the Cross – His Resurrection
A. Sin had been taken care of … but there remained one enemy to be conquered
B. Death “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23 (ESV)
C. Everyone will face the First death, but not all will face the Second death.
